biography
aquaserge
in french ‘aquaserge’ is a play on words meaning both ‘aquatic Serge’ and ‘what am I for’ ?
the group was formed around three dissident musicians from the French group Hyperclean, in 2005: Julien Barbagallo: drums, Julien Gasc: keyboards, guitars, bass, voice, Benjamin Glibert, guitar, bass. ( Manon Glibert, clarinet, Audrey Ginestet, bass, François Gout, voice, orguan et Latifa Leforestier, voice, trompet, join them for live acts). The split was a chance for them to explore certain unknown, or little known, pockets of rock. A mixture of profound influences was thus established ; navigating knowingly between kraut giants such as Neu ! and Faust, anglo-saxon pop, Soft Machine, Zappa.
Adepts of the first draft and experimentations, they produced three albums between 2005 and 2008, (the first, “Tahiti Coco” came out in September 2008 on the American label Manimal Vinyl Records). They push the already elastic boundaries of the classic pop/rock formation (guitar, bass, keyboards, drums) just that little bit further each time. Aquaserge sings an epic tale. A strange, underwater mythology is woven from one opus to the next — that of the charming Serge, survivor and savant, who wanders in the abyss aboard his cigar-shaped submarine.
The group gave its first concerts in June 2008, notably as openers for Bertrand Burgalat. Aquaserge become the backing band for the founder of the Tricatel label and for April March making a tour in France, Switzel and Belgium in january 2008. Members of the group also regularly surge from their marine habitat to tour and collaborate with Makoto Kawabata and Acid Mothers Temple (they record a free rock album with him, unrelease yet), Kinski, Laetitia Sadier and Stereolab (they play as openers in the european stereolab tour in november 2008), April March, Tahiti80…
they are working on recording and composing an album aquaserge and the singer April March.
The new aquaserge album « ce très cher serge, spécial origines » outed in April 2010 on Manimal Vinyl Records (distributed by Cargo Records) came with a us promo tour in April/May 2010.
